What is the scariest thing that's ever happened to your pet and did they live through it?

Mine happened yesterday. My mom and my sister were playing with my guinea pig outside in the 70 degree weather. He was in his cage under an umbrella. I was at a soccer game that ended up lasting 2 hours (with pizza and all). They came to watch without putting my guinea pig back inside. We came home to find him with heat stroke. We cooled him down and he ended up to be fine. So what's yours?

When a Pit Bull came at me, and my Cocker Spaniel came to the rescue. The Pit Bull mauled her and very nearly killed her. We had to shoot that monster 4 times before it would let her go, then we had a late night dash to the vet's with arteries spurting. All I knew to do was drive fast, and had my friend press a towel against her neck to try to slow the bleeding down. It cost over $300 to get her patched back together, and one of her front legs never worked quite right after that, but I know beyond a doubt if it hadn't been for her that it would have been me. That was truly the scariest incident I ever had that involved one of my pets.
